Goose Down, Wool & Pure Cotton Pillows
A good bed pillow makes the difference between a peaceful night’s sleep and a restless one. The pillow’s job is to support your head and neck in comfort, allowing you to drop off to sleep easily and awake feeling rested. For reading in bed a big square European pillow is an ideal extra. Use it as a bed reading pillow and put it aside when you settle down to sleep. They are really very comfortable to sleep on too if you like a large pillow.
Pillow choices involve consideration of size, filling, firmness and fabric. Do you sleep on your back? If so you need a firmer and flatter pillow than a side sleeper. A side sleeper needs more neck support, so a deeper pillow is in order.
Down And Feather Pillows
If you like a pillow that you can mold into shape then a down pillow would suit you. Down pillows are the height of luxury and the most expensive pillows. They do last for years though, and so, in the long run, are less expensive. When the fabric cover goes you can have a new cover made using the same down. Throw them into your tumble dryer now and then and they fluff up like new, and the heat kills off the dust mites at the same time.
Down and feather mixtures produce a pillow that is a little firmer than pure down. Firmness is dependent on the percentage of feather to down pillow filling.
Cotton Filled Pillows
Cotton filled pillows are often recommended for allergy and asthma sufferers. They provide a firmer pillow that maintains it shape over the years and is fully washable.
Pillow Protectors
You will need pillow protectors and pillow cases for your new pillows. A pillow protector will stop the pillow becoming stained, as they inevitably do after some use. This is especially important if they are filled with down, which is not washable. The best kind of pillow protectors are of good cotton with a zip. Those that come with ties always wrinkle up or slip off.
